The firm was established 90 years ago and is currently made up of 97 lawyers (19 partners and 78 associates) with offices in Mexico City, Monterrey and Queretaro. The Basham labor practice group is made up of three partners and twelve associates. It is headed by Oscar de la Vega, who is highly recommended in such publications as Latin Lawyer, Hieros Gamos and Who’s Who Legal and widely known as one of the leading practitioners in this field in Mexico.
The Basham labor practice group provides legal services to many Fortune 500 national and multinational employers, with a view to helping them develop and implement labor strategies intended to optimise their human and material resources. More specifically, the group assists clients in establishing employment systems and structures that take into account Mexican labor and social security laws, while at the same time avoiding the potentially serious employment liability often overlooked by foreign investors. The group has years of experience regarding the particular union and employment profile in each of the country’s different regions and is skilled in negotiating with both government agencies, union officials and individual employees to best protect the interests of its clients.
Basham’s labor practice embraces all aspects of employer-employee relations, including labor management relations, individual employment relations, executive and employee compensation packages, social security and immigration matters.
