Ius Laboris University:  Where Learning Creates Leaders

At Ius Laboris, we understand the importance of the internal growth and development of every one of our lawyers. The Ius Laboris University focuses on the professional development of our most important asset – our people! After all, to be the undisputed leaders in labour, employment and pensions law, every associate must be able to deliver the highest quality and most consistent service to our clients.

Never Stop Learning

The Ius Laboris University provides an opportunity for our associates to further develop their specialist knowledge and soft skills, whilst interacting with lawyers from other member firms.  The event offers workshops for professional growth along with a varied social programme which ensures that lawyers throughout Ius Laboris get know each other well, the better to work together.  Each event is designed to encourage learning, networking and idea sharing.

Tailored Course Streams

Our last event for European members took place in Kyiv from 13 to 16 June 2019.  In May 2019, we held a University event in Toronto. A typical Ius Laboris University programme offers two parallel course streams, which allows members to study the more applicable area for them. At our most recent University, we offered a module on International Project Management; we ran commercial aware course called "Ready 4 Business" and we ran a Hackathon, in which lawyers worked in teams to find innovative tech solutions to issues that we typically advise HR professionals about.

In our International Project Management programme, attendees are given the tools and techniques to enable them to work across borders. This improves efficiency and effectiveness, resulting in increased client satisfaction. Our Business Skills module has recently focused on training in English legal drafting in English, using English as a business language.

Course Content

The University speakers are the perfect mix of internal and external experts. Previous external speakers have included Simon Dawkins of Red Kite Training, and Judith Raphaely (an industry expert on writing and communication skills).

The current internal group of University presenters consists of Hannah Price of Lewis Silkin, UK; Philip Nabben of Bronsgeest Deur Advocaten, The Netherlands; Valeria Morosini and Ornella Patané of Toffoletto de Luca Tomajo e Soci, Italy; Sophie Maes of Claeys & Engels, Belgium; Román Gil Alburquerque and Gisella Alvarado of Sagardoy Abogados, Spain; and Tiffany Downs of FordHarrison, US.

Learning Space

Our University is where learning and experience come together. It’s the physical space where Ius Laboris lawyers solve problems, have conversations and build their capabilities. The course aims to make a meaningful impact on our people and community worldwide.
