Michael Burd is a partner and joint head of Lewis Silkin's Employment, Reward and Immigration department. He crossed the Atlantic to complete his undergraduate studies in 1978 and never returned home. He advises on all aspects of employment and partnership law, with particular interest in negotiating senior level departures and dispute resolution generally. His practice is highly international, dealing with both UK clients' employment law needs globally and with UK issues for clients in numerous other jurisdictions.
Rarely a day goes by when Michael Burd is not in contact with colleagues in other Ius Laboris firms. This might be in his capacity as a member of the Executive Committee of the Alliance, which oversees the functioning of the network, or in the course of his practice. Some recent examples of the latter include advising on the implementation of a downsizing exercise for a major client based in the United States across 17 European jurisdictions, helping a large Indian business to set up and establish operations in the UK (including initial local hires and temporary relocation of Indian managers to assist the UK launch), liaising with local counsel on behalf of a (household name) UK manufacturing business over the removal of a layer of management in seven other EMEA countries, dealing with a variety of issues arising from business transfers, and defending discrimination claims against a multinational company.
